Title: Defences against the “Petrwrap” Ransomware Attack

Recently, worldwide ransomware attack named as "Petrwrap" is spreading wildly in Europe. Similar to the “WannaCry” ransomware, this attack is targeting Windows-based computers and will propagate once a device is infected. From current information, Petrwrap spreads across the Internet by phishing emails or exploiting SMB vulnerability. The SMB vulnerability can be fixed through the security patches released by Microsoft.

To defense against the ransomware attacks, please make sure the following:

  • Keep all backups offline to prevent from online attack
  • Keep the anti-malware program up-to-date
  • Apply latest security patches released by Microsoft
  • Don’t opening any suspicious emails, attachments and hyperlinks
